1987 suzuki dt-75 alarm going off

hi, i am new to forum. i have a 1987 suzuki dt-75 that recently the alarm started going off after the engine would get hot. i replaced water pump assembly and the automatic oiler seems to be working fine because the oil level goes down with engine use. is there a engine temp sensor that could be bad? and if so, where is it located? thanks for any info.

we have a 89 DT75 and the sensor is located next to #2 spark plug. Is a black plastic type triangle with two wires to the electronic box. you can remove the two screws and rock it back n forth to free it up then remove slowly for inspection,

Thanks for responding. I changed that sensor out but the motor is still running hot when you run it at full throttle. Someone said it could possibly be a "poppet valve" that is bad. They said this "poppet valve" opens up and allows more water to enter the top of the motor at full throttle, if valve is bad it will not allow water to get to the top of motor at full throttle. Sounds like this could be my problem, because mine runs fine at slower speeds and doesnt get hot until u try to go full throttle. Problem is that I dont know where the "poppet valve" is located. The valve you mentioned should be the thermostat, located on top of the cylinder head:

Its function is to open the hole circuit when the engine reaches a defined temperature. These thermostats can get clogged or corroded and not opening properly during the years.
What you can do is to remove the 3 bolts holding the cover and take the thermostat out. Be careful with the bolts as the thread is aluminum and easy to damage. Also be sure to have a new gasket for the cover. (I did one of those myself using gasket paper and cutting it in size or you can get preformed ones, too)

The easiest way to check if the thermostat is working is to put it into hot/boiling water and see if it opens or not.

I have an 89 suzuki 75 and it runs ok when in gear at 1300 rpm or higher. If I run below that the alarm goes off. The concern I have is the impeller is starting to go out and i will change the stat first to see what happens. Has anyone done an impeller? What is the difficulty level? Where is it located? First time on the forum. Thanks
