Re: Gas tank
Have you already removed the old fuel? If not, siphon out the old stuff, and dispose of properly.
If the tank can be removed, there are a bunch of ways to clean it out (do a search, and there have been many threads about doing it). If you can't remove the tank, you can run new fuel (with ethanol) through it, and have a bunch of filters at the ready to collect all the flakes and grit that will start coming out of the tank. Keep changing the filters until you've got it all out. You can make yourself a fuel polisher with a simple manual pump and a couple of filters, and cycle the fuel through the sender and pickup. (That's how I did mine, took about 4hours, and yes, it sucked.)
'Dry Gas', acetone, Seafoam, or any of the numerous fuel system cleaners available will help breakdown the shellac, and eventually you'll get it all.
