I'm buying a boat that has a 2004 Suzuki 140 4-stroke outboard on the back.

Engine starts and runs flawlessly. Perfect compression. Unfortunately, the engine has a knock that gets louder the higher the RPM gets. He said he took it to the shop, and they said his main bearings need to be replaced.

I'm buying the boat. Could anyone tell me what the general, ball-park price of getting the main bearings replaced is going to cost me? I understand the bearing kit alone is$300. He says labor should cost me $1,000, as long as nothing else is bad.

Opinions?

Thanks.

I would only pay for the boat and trailer as the motor is not worth paying for.
If it was a easy fix he would have done it and charged even more when sold.
Plan on crank along with bearings
