It runs continously down,it will go up when you use the up switch but then goes back to running down,what to check.We have checked relay and there is no power to the coil and the switch remains open but it still wants to go down what to do?
Sounds like there's corrosion in the switch like Will said. Get some electrical cleaner spray and start with that. Could be something as simple as a rusty connection (crossing fingers of course). But I would start at the helm/controls.

Thanks for the replys!We did some more checking and found a plug connector under the dash that had got hot and melted the wires together.The boat is a 1979 Norris Craft.It only affected the switch on the throttle handle and the one at the front of the boat.Again thanks for the input,and maybe this experience will help someone else in the future.
