new boater with some mechanical experiance having issues with a merc 175 and looking for some help. Boat was free ( 19' 1987 invader). Well not for long, I got the motor to start finally after installing new plugs,cap, wires, rotor, start coil,but would only run for 5 mins the stall with no restart for 12 hrs.I then replaced the dist sensor and that fixed it I thought gas tank was empty til i tried to fill it today and only put in 4 gals of 89, . on initial start i put 5 gals of 87 with stabil. I know my bulb is sticking cause i gotta beat on the carb to unstick it. I took it out to the lake today, ran fine at home. in the water and wouldn't start. beat on the carb and adjust throtle started rite up. ran great for 1.5 hrs, 3000 plus rpm around the lake. slowed down by the ramp to have it stall let it cool fora bit and drift halfway cross the lake cause anchor wont catch prayin that i dont have to paddle against the wind. when i try to start it i can see gas being pumped in, ether does nothing. after waiting 45 mins it does start but runs like poo and can only get it to not stall by having it at 3000 rpm. No that im home and its cool again it runs fine in my driveway. Anyone have any ideas.is there an electrical safety or something im missing. please help. thanks
