I have a 1984 Johnson 115. When I purchased the Boat/ Motor the unit had no thermostat. I posted here and the consensus is that I need to put in a T-stat to burn the fuel more efficiently. The engine does smoke and I do have unburnt 2 stroke oil dripping from the prop. My mechanic said he has been working on these engines since 79 and I will have more problems w/ overheating if I put the t-stat back in. He said go get hotter plugs. I do have the T-stat on order but it has not arived yet. My mechanic has been wrong before. I want to hear what u guys think. P.S. The plugs I have in it are NGK BZ7HS. Is the hotter plug NGK BZ8HS?
