water from starboard side of 150hp V6

Ok guys, I just got this boat an 83 Ranger 350V with an 150 hp V6 Mercury. Today I have the cowls off and hooked up the muffs. She starts right up and I look for the water coming from the pee hole which I have, I then notice a small stream of water spraying from the lower part of the power head and shut her down cause I have no clue if it is normal to be spraying water from here. Is this normal of should I replace whatever goes here? Thanks

Ok, I think its the relieve valve or poppet. Still should this be spraying water at idle?

No it shouldn't leak. Change the diaphram, it has a hole in it.(If it's the poppet cover your looking at).

You need 2 gaskets and the diaphragm minimum for service. Might need seat, valve, or spring when you get into it. Not hard to work on, but there's a trick or 2.

Wished you would'nt of said there's a trick or 2. One of the bolts snapped off in the block and it took awhile to get it extracted. But got it out and will get r back on to my favorite fishing spot.

That's one of the tricks. The other one is to be sure the seat isn't floppy loose in the block so it comes out with the valve and jams it open. That's fixed with a little gentle center punch peening.

Im having the same issue with my 84' V6 Mariner, "old style poppet" (NOT the new figure 8 style). I replaced the poppet valve,gaskets,spring and even the hard plastic seat on the block and it is still leaking out of that little hole. what gives admiral?
