how long, and under what conditions has the motor been stored? i recently got a 1956 johnson cd 13 .....barn find... for free. coils not cracked, cleaned the points....still no fire to either plug...pulled the plg wires from the coils and checked for continuity..had none. the old wires corroded at the coils. clipped 1/2 inch from each one, cleaned the "prong" where they push into the coil...and voila...spark to both plugs! (turns out the powerhead was no good.....but it was a good exercise in troubleshooting!)
do a compression test before spending a bunch of time trying to get spark. i had fun getting fire...but should have listened to other posters and made sure the motor was ok.....it wasnt.
