Removing a 1982 Evinrude 60HP Lower unit to check the water pump, followed instructions from another forum post, but I cannot seem to find the last bolt that holds the linkage up, everything else is loose and its about an inch down, but the rod in the rear of it seems to be holding it up, any chance someone can point out the bolt im missing?

Im pretty sure its a 3/8 but im just not entirely sure what one, any help would be appreciated!

Pictures may be crap but i can always take more, or if there is a parts diagram to point it out on

It's more underneath the powerhead/carbs, not where the linkage attaches from the control cables. The shift lever goes straight up the middle of the exaust and attaches underneath - can be a pain sometimes

Follow the shift linkage down under the carbs, it is located under the bottom carb, use a 1/4 drive extension with a swivel and you should be able to get it out.

Yea i agree with them. Look straight at the carbs but under the bottom one. You will se it facing you in the linkage. I have the same motor but the white version.

thank you for all your help I am pretty sure this is what you are all referring too, someone called it a thru bolt for the linkage, can't imagine what else that might be

Yea, thats it, mine does not look exactly like that but mines really an 82 so maybe thats it? I have no hex head on the horizontal like you do, and my top hexbolt is like half that size.

Its much easier to see and unscrew the shift rod bolt if you remove the starter motor first, im sure the manual advises to do this also.....the bolt is removed from that side of the motor (last pic) not the other side (first pics).....
