I am replacing my motors in my Carver and when I removed the transmissions I saw that the starbord transmission has about 3/4" travel before engaging. By that I mean by turning the shaft on the rear of the tranny it will turn 3/4" either way freely. The other is tight, only a tiny amont of play.

That tranny has always "clunked" going from forward to reverse. Not too bad, and I always took care to do so with a pause...

What do you think?

Thanks!

Howdy,

I have never had a V-drive apart but any "transmission" that has a lot of "play" probably has a LOT of wear.

I would have a look inside before it self destructs..........
