Takes two hands and some effort to turn the steering wheel. When I disconnected the steering cable and lubed the fitting, Steering wheel can be turned with one finger. It is very hard to turn the motor by hand when the cable is disconnected. tried to lube it at the fitting, at what I think is called the king pin, but could not get much greese in. When I pushed in the ball on the greese fitting, greese came squirting out. Is there any way to free this up without taking the motor off the boat? Heat maybe? Any help will be much appreciated.

NOPE! Ther only way to free it is by removing the yoke and kingpin assembly. Heat will do nothing except melt the plastic bushings inside.

It requires removing the engine from the boat, removing the lower engine mount, removing the carbs, and driving out the kingpin. Then you need to clean the inside of the yoke, kingpin, and plastic bushings. You may need to drill the bushings back to 1 1/8 inside diameter. All in all a long, nasty, and tedious job--good winter project.

Are you at or near Somers Point N.J.? If you are, send me a private message.

Thanks form the imput. I have the cable disconnected and I'm turning the motor back and forth by hand. I keep spraying break free and blaster into the top and bottom of the pivot. Still hard to move. considering removing the greese fitting (drive type) and getting something in there to break up that old greese. I'll try whatever I can before I end up pulling the motor.

I am having the same exact problem with my 94 Force 120. Trying to spray WD4 on top and bottom pivot point. Let me know if you succeed freeing up the motor. I do not want to remove the motor either.

No luck. Almost every day for about two weeks I sprayed WD40, Blaster and Break Free on the top and bottom of the pivot and turned the engine back and forth by hand. It seemed to get easier but still tight. I now have the boat in the water and will remain there until mid-September. I will re-adderss the problem then. My only concern is damaging the rest of the steering assembly by operating with the tight steering the way it is. I will have arms like Popeye by Labor Day.

An entire new steering system can be had for little more than $100. Why mess with it?
