New boat owner

Newbie here, and to the boating world. I have a 2003 Mercury Saltwater 150 2 stroke that needs plugs. I was told to get Champion L77JC4. The current gap setting is .055, but my buddy who is going to do some maintenance for me says to go with .035, but would like for me to run down what the factory manual recommends, which I do not have yet.
