i cant seem to find info on my outboard mortor its a mariner 30hp this is whats on the tag 30elo code 689 L ser# 419313 made in japan please help

Should be 1988 - 2 cyl. - long shaft - electric start

Having a similar issue here. A mariner 30 ELO 689 J 552575 from japan. Can't make a lot of the vin calculation but the only letter is J which would assume '88. I was not able to find the numbers anywhere on the net. The motor is in bits and would like to order a manual to have an attempt in putting it back together. Anyone out there who can confirm the year? Pleaaaase
