First off, let me tell everyone HI!

Now, for the fun stuff....I've got a Ultranautics 1260 Jetstar boat that I just replaced the deck in last season. The boat is fun but it's a little on the small side. I'm looking for something a little bigger.

I ran across an add for a 95 20' Bayliner Capri for $2500. The add says the floor's a litttle soft around the ski locker. When I went to look at it, I found out it's actually a 90 and the only part of the deck that wasn't soft was behind the seats! Now, I've studied most of the posts on here I could find about what's involved in replacing the deck in these and I'm anticipating complete deck, stringers, and possibly transom (keeping my fingers crossed on that one). Most of the restorations I've seen have been I/O's, while this one has a Force 150 hanging off the back. The engine runs and I was told that if I wanted to put it in the water that would be ok.

Overall, with the exception of the deck, the boat and trailer seem to be in pretty good shape; hull, seats, trim, etc. I replaced the deck on my little jetboat, so I've got an idea of what I'm getting myself into and I wouldn't be doing the boat for for profit, just pleasure; (after a lot of pain...) I know that I can do the work but my question is given the information I provided about the condition of the boat, any thought about the asking price of it? Any recommendations on this project? If I go forward with this, anything I need to look out during a more detailed inspection?

Thanks

Wally

I suspect you'll need to replace the entire stringer, bulkead, transom and deck system of the boat. This typically will run somewhere around $1,000 to $1,500 dollars and about 80 to 150 hours of work

If you already owned this boat it could possibly be a worthwhile project. But I SURE AS HECK wouldn't buy it!

That's what I'm thinking too...the Jetstar I already had it and it wasnt really that difficult.

There was a few things kinda bugging me about that one anyway; (guy didnt know the year, fuel cap, last time in the water was last year, but tags are 7 years old)

All that's good and all...found another project that I'm gonna have to consider instead of this one.

1997 20' VIP Vixen w/ 5.7 merc I/O that's running hot....$3500

I've got more experience with rebuilding engines, especially GM products, than floors. so on the surface, I think I may look at this one instead. Any comments?

VIP w/overheating issue (3500) vs Bayliner w/rotten floor (2500)

well that one sounds like it has more potential. Just make sure "running hot" isn't a euphemism for "I overheated the heck out of it".
