Mercruiser Rochester 2CV Carburetor problem

I have a Mercruiser 470 that was suffering for a fuel issue. I was fine out of the water, started, ran great and revved right through the rev range in or out of gear but it the water it wouldn't accelerate. Had the carb off and apart which was filthy, really need a serious clean up, cleaned out all the salt, corrosion, vacuum ports etc, replaced all the parts you get in a rebuild kit, re assembled it, set the float correctly and now I have another problem that I didn?t have previously.

When I put it back on the boat, got the fuel through and it started fine, turned if off, let it sit for about a minute and it wouldn't start. When I looked the 2 x Venturi were both dripping fuel and had flooded in inlet manifold.
Took the carb back home, checked the float adjustment again, checked that the needle valve was ok and shutting the fuel off ok, fueled it up and same again.
I have now set the float 1/4" lower when closed and it?s stopped dripping when level but if you rock the carb as it would do on the boat it still drips from the venturi.
I noticed on the drawing supplied with the re build kit that there should be 2 x inserts into the main well below the venturi fuel pick up but they were not there when I took it apart and it didn't do this before I took it apart.

Any help or advise would be great fully received as I am starting to loose the will to live.

Did your kit come with two styles of needle and seats? I had rebuilt a carb of mine and just used the similar parts that were installed... come to find out I needed to install the spring loaded needle and seat assy instead of the solid one. Just a thought :)

Hi there, yes been around that option and now re fitted the old valve and seat, still no change. Thanks anyway for your reply
