I have not looked at this boat yet, but am not to familar with repairs of boats...

I am being told the Transome has a small crack, and that is the only problem would this be worth the repairs? and how hard is it to repair a "small" transome crack if this is the only problem?

they are asking $800.00

it is a 1988 16ft bayliner trophy c/c with 85hp

Welcome to Iboats..

We didnt look at the boat yet either .. ( Need Pics ).

You were told incorrectly .. There are other problems .. just dont know what they are yet ;) .

Does the drivetrain work well ?? You really need to inspect the boat..

I imagine that in addition to the structural problems, that 85HP motor is probably a Force which is not fully supported with parts or service. I would not buy that boat.

Indeed. There's barely $800 worth of stuff there. If you owned this boat already is might be a decent project to restore but I certainly wouldn't buy it.

Re: Transom Crack

Well i am unable to post a new thread.... maye jsut dont know how too

I made a purchase on a 1984 Bayliner Capri 1950 openbow. with a 2004 Kara trailer in excellent shape.
Got the boat and trailer for $340.00. boat is an Inboard with a Volvo Penta engine. and the guy had an extra outboard with it and three extra props. He couldnt get it to turn over and he bought a new boat.

Well.. i figured for the price i can make it my first boat and project boat... Got the boat home used my fathers extra battery to his boat and it started right up. Talked to a few of my fathers expierenced boaters and they looked at the engine and said it was in great shape and needs a few minor things but all very minor and the engine sounds and runs good.

The transom on the boat is in good shape no flex or rot..... Came across a spot on the floor in the rear of the boat approx 8 inches x 4 inches that is soft. Tore the carpet and this is the only rotted spot on the boat all the other wood is in good condition.

Want to just get this boat fixed up for now and in the water and do a complete restore over the winter. I read thigns on here about the bayliners floors, with this small spot is there a temp fix i could do for the time being but nothing permanent.

Any good webpages for materials or tools i would need.. And when i redue the floors i would like to redue the transome so i know its in great conditon but was unable to find any photos how to do an inboard transom..

Thank You

Lucky you....27 year old Bayliner with only a small rotten spot is really rare...looks like you found a jewel for that price.

Re: Transom Crack

Run away....very fast :)

That's impossible, no one can run that fast. Don't even get close enough to find the need to run. Whoops, tooo late.

Oh well, if the price is what you say it is and you didn't leave a zero off then you got a good deal even if you end up scrapping it.

Sure you can cut out the bad deck part and piece it back together. But before you do that, go find yourself a scale and weigh it. Then get the original weight from Bayliner and add in 300bs for the trailer. If the weight is close you should be o.k. If it's way off then you probably have saturated foam and you'll need to rethink your strategies.
