I have a 1997 Crownline 202Br with a 350 & a alfa 1 outdrive. What type of oil goes in the drive reservoir that is located inside the engine compartment. Does this supply the outdrive?

Re: Drive oil reservoir

rayygunn1,

I assume you are referring to the lube reservoir that is mounted on the top of the engine......if so, this is the outdrive lube reservoir. Do you know what outdrive gear lube was used in the outdrive? I'd stick with the Mercruiser Premimum or Mercruiser High Performance gear lube. The lubes should not be mixed and the color is different between the two lubes.

It is not unusual for the outdrive lube reservoir level to be a little low in the spring following outdrive servicing. Any air in the outdrive will work it's way out over the winter or upon first use and the reservoir lube level will drop. If the lube level drops too far, you should hear a constant audible alarm.

The oils are now both the same color. Be best drain completely & refill w/one or the other.
