Default 1st new boat in 30 years..is it a good deal?

It's a 2000 Princecraft Pro 166/2000 Evinrude 70 4-stroke.I'm considering purchasing this boat. It's an aluminum deep v, walk-thru windshield, fish and ski type. It is a new boat, has been sitting on the showroom floor since 2000. Price is $11,900 with no add-ons or accessories.Hull weight is 995#, 6 person capacity, and is rated at 90 hp. I'm a little concerned about the weight of the 4-stroke and not having max power.I have two questions (I'm looking forward to JBs answers on this as I know he has the Suzuki DF70):1. Is the weight to power ratio on this deep v-hull acceptable if we plan on skiing and cruising with 4 adults and kids?2. What possible problems could result in the engine sitting idle for so long? This forum is awesome, I have learned much from it.

I think the 70 is a bit on the low side for skiing...especially if the boat is rated for a 90.You may do ok for skiing if only two adults were in the boat...with four adults and kids it'll be a dog for skiing.

Love my motor. Seems proabably slightly underpowered for a boatload and sking, anyway ya can leave a couple of adults on the dock while you ski...Should give you a little better pull. That's all I can add as mine is on a toon.

I think you may have better luck with a 2 stroke,I looked at buying 4 stroke when they first came out,and when I took it on a test run was disapointed in the time it took to get out of the hole. Maybe they have improved? Other than that it ran good. the girlfriend liked it because it did'nt stink good luck Jim

Thanks for the replies. Even though I proof read my post twice, I guess I could have been more clear about the skiing. We would normally have two adults and two small children in the boat while (hopefully) pulling another child. I ski once in a while, then my wife would drive.I learned to ski behind a trihull with a 33 johnson on it (it's got a 50 now and it does ok pulling me up). I just didn't know how much more hp deep-v would need and if 70 were enough.

Well my 2 Cents, I have always owned classic wooden boats, 1956 CC Cav. and 1958 Whirlwind. I recently sold the wood for sport glass, 1992 Sea Ray bowrider 185 w/5.0 235hp. enough with the slow and show, being a mid age adult, I want speed and power for me and my wife and two kids. I learned that it was fun to get their and tube and ski with the kids, a small under powered hp motor wouldnt allow it, plus I have alot of family and friends who want to play so leaving them on the dock gets old fast. if you can, go for the power, at least this way you will never be sorry you didnt. I think even last year models are fine to price, just wheel and deal and dont stop till ya get the best bang for the buck!
