Hey Guys,

New to forums but have had a few boats. In my most recent purchase was a Scarab1 with an alpha 1 gen 1 and mercruiser 260/v8. So after getting new bellows and gimbal bearings I took her out all day and she ran perfect. On my way home I was cursing along at like 3000 rpm's and the boat revved like my prop had spun off. So I turned the boat off and checked and everything looked ok. The boat has an SS prop that just fits on perfectly so I don't think it could be the hub.

So I put the boat in forward gear with the boat off and could not turn the prop back words as it was locked and then in reverse could not put move the prop forward so it seemed to be working well. Now I went into the engine bay and saw that my v belt was shredded off. I had originally thought this was the cause but it turns out it was not. Any ideas?

I am hoping it is not my alpha one being bad, I am pulling the boat from the water tomorrow to check my drive oil and see how it looks. I also checked and saw that it the cable was moving that is attached to the valve cover. If you have any ideas on what this could be please let me know.

Thanks in advance, enjoy your mdw and god bless

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

I'd guess either the prop hub is stripped, or the motor coupler is Beat...

try another prop,...
If it works Ok, you found the problem...
If not,...
it's probably the coupler...

The boat did not over heat nor show signs of raising in temp at all over 142, is there any definite ways to check if its the coupler?

I found the problem, shredded upper gears. The problem seems to be that the previous owner had a bad seal which allowed water to enter into the out drive which weakened the gears and even though i changed the seals and fluid for high performance quicksilver they still shredded apart.
