Hi all,

New to the forum, looking for a little help with a problem I am having with a Mercury 35HP (1990ish).
When idling in neutral I can get all the RPMs I need (4,000-6,000). I drop it into gear and the most I can get is about 1,500-2,000 resulting in the boat only going about 10 MPH. Linkage into the motor travels the same in both scenarios.

Please help.....Confused.

First of all. Don't rev the engine that high in neutral. VERY BAD.
Check compression and report back.
Same post don't start another one.

Compression is fine, I guess the question is why in neutral can I get the higher RPM's then in gear???

What are your compression numbers?
Plus. do you have SPARK ON BOTH CYLINDERS?
BY the way WHat is the serial number for this motor?
