I have removed the outdrive from an 84 mercruiser 140. I then put a hose to the water intake in order to run the engine. As soon as I put water pressure to it, water streams out of what look like just aft and below where the starter attaches on the starboard side.
It isn't easy to see exactly where/why, but at least one or two places spilling into the bilge.
Any ideas on what is going on or how to approach diagnosis and remedy? Thanks

Thanks,
I will attempt to get some photos of the area of leakage so those more experienced may assess what's happening.

I am hoping to show the photos of the water streaming out around the flywheel area, I assume, right around and below where the starter gear is inserted? Engine runs fine and no water internally in oil etc.
Is there a salvageable process or repair possible, do I have to pull the motor to get to it,,,other ideas or input?

There is a core plug on the back of the block that may be damaged. Only way to get to it is to pull the engine.

Did you ever find the problem? I have the exact same issue.

Will do, I thought I may be worth a try as my 83 140 has exactly the same issues.
