swapping parts from one motor to another?

Hey guys I am looking for another trolling motor and I have found one thats great and all but it has a longer shaft on it. Could I swap the shorter shaft from my old one to the new one? The older one is a motorguide brute series and the new one is a newer motorguide tour edition.

"Older" and "Newer" are no help. Measure the shaft diameter. If they are the same except for length it will probably work. Just make sure you seal the end that goes into the motor houseing to avoid water intrusion.
