Default New boat and motor

Hello I am new to the iboats forum and basically new to boating. I just purchased a 18 foot smokercraft jon with 2000 johnson 115 jet. motor number is J115JPLSIF. Can you guys tell me much about this motor and boat as to quality and what I should expect out of it? I plan on using it for fishing in the lakes and running the Snake River when duck season starts. What do you think?

redog...your boat should be fine if was cared for properly. Here's some advice, take it or leave it...your choice...take a USCG boating safety course, there are several in your area coming up this spring. After that I would learn as much about your boat as you can. You can put in a Steck park and take some short trips down the river, keeping an eye on the gas usage, cause you will use a lot of fuel in that boat(you'll be lucky if you get 2mpg). You'll find that later in the year when the moss gets bad on Brownlee that the jet pump is a pain as it gets plugged up easily. You can duck hunt with that boat just fine...I put in at Adrian, but mostly we take a smaller boat that is easier to hide.I know the Snake River very well where you live...and if you play safe, you will catch many fine fish and have many good days of boating...just my Thoughts

Thanks thought101, It doesn't sound like the mpg will be to good but it has a 18 gallon tank so should be fine for medium trips. Am looking forward to weather warming up to get to know it better.
