I have a 1994 75hp mercury that has a black box attached between the Stator wires green/white and white/green the outcome of the black box is the blue wire to the switch box. I cannot find a part number or the item in any schematics. I also have some burnt wires from the stator to the terminal block. I Ohm tested the voltage regulator it does not test correctly so I suspect it is bad but just wondering if the stator may have gone crazy and burnt it up is there any way I can test this before I put my new regulator on? Also what the heck is that black box?
