Never did this before, can anyone point me to a step be step on how to change out the water pump. I have done a few on mercs but never on a evinrude. Motor is a 96 115 90 degree crossflow model. Thanks

Remove retainer pin that holds shift linkage. Push shift assembly in toward the center of the powerhead to disengage shift linkage.

Remove 6 bolts holding lower unit. Drop lower unit. If it gets hung up on shift linkage, grab the linkage with needle nose pliers just below the power head and pull toward you.

Remove 4 bolts holding water pump. Slide up and off driveshaft. Remove the housing, gaskets and impellor.
Gasket seal the new inner housing into new outer housing. Install new seals. Install cam with some needle bearing grease so it stays put.
Replace metal plate and oring below water pump.
Reassemble.

Get yourself a service manual. Although Casey has provided the basics, he has left out some details. You will need some aviation gasket maker (brush in can type) as well as some permatex #2 non-hardening and some marine grease to do the job.

I have done many a Merc myself, but the Johnnyrudes are a little different, expecially installing/ removing the impeller drive key.

You will need to glue some orings into places using the permatex, install some gaskets using the aviation gasket cement, etc.
