I've been working on the GM/Mercruiser 165 horse 6 cylinder inline engine in my old boat. It has a 2 barrel carb. The way the linkage is set up now, the blades in the throttle body can only rotate a few degrees. The link connected to the accelerator pump will only rotate about half an inch, which constrains the rest of the mechanism.
Is this normal? It seems to me that the throttle plate should be able to go completely parallel with the airflow, hence the term wide open throttle. Before I adjust/break it, I thought I would check if this is how it is designed.
Thanks.
