vacuum advance?

Hi all. I've upgraded my mercruiser mcm 165 inline 6 with a lot of help from this forum and is running great.

To get some additional performance, I'm wondering about vacuum advance?

On the carb, the vacuum nipple is high on the carb so I think that's ported vacuum instead of manifold vacuum? I have a carb riser I could drill a hole in for manifold vacuum.

Is this a viable upgrade? Do I use the ported vacuum or drill a hole?

Re: vacuum advance?

I should mention that I only have a mechanical advance dist. but plan to upgrade that as well - just need to know if I should stay with mechanical or vacuum?
