I've got a large fiberglass top that needs to be repainted. I'm not sure how to go about it. Do I need to sand it or strip the paint off? What's the best way to go about restoring this top. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks
If you know what type of paint was on it, that would help. Alot of companies for example say you can put a one-part polyurethane on top of another one-part. For myself, I would sand it with a random orbital sander or a sanding block. Wash down with solvent, prime, and then roll and tip. the link below is about how interlux brightside (a popular marine topside paint) should be applied. It also gives you the different grit of sandpaper to use. This should put you on the right track. Remember as with any painting project prep is the key.
