I have discovered a wealth of information in this forum that facilitated me getting several motors back on the water. This most recent addition to my collection has me stumped.

I searched this forum and was unable to find a direct solution. The throttle gear in the lower cowling is seized. Can't figure out how to remove without destroying plastic gear. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Will post photos if will help. Thanks.

Take a look near the bottom of this page. This is a must read for 9.9 and 15 owners. I doubt you will find the gear frozen if it the one on the bottom of the vertical shaft. Once you get it exposed you turn a 1/4 inch lag bolt into the center and after it gets a good purchase pull the lag straight up and the plastic center bushing will slide up and out. Best of luck. @Rick. - Studied the ramblings link several times to no avail. Has saved my butt several times before though. Downloaded it to my iBooks application.

@Daviet - it is part number 52 that is seized. Can't get it to budge.

You mean it woun't rotate when you twist the throttle?
Could the problem be further up the handle?
You might have to disassemble the entire hand to find out where it is seized.

If the #52 gear is seized, look farther as it just floats on the shaft #53 shaft. You may have to pull the whole handle & remove the #67 snap ring allowing the #65 gear & the #53 shaft to come forward. However usually if anything gets bound up it is the #66 gear/shaft that gets seized in the #55 Nylon bushing if the grease gets washed out.

Go to my "Ramblings" Troubleshooting section & about 2/3rds the way down I cover this, but because it usually gets so loose & sloppy that timing becomes an issue not being overly tight. But the removal/repairs are the same. Also here is a photo of the #67 snap ring.

Finally got the gear out. Took old fashion persuasion with a hammer and drift. Took emery cloth to the "hole" and waiting on new gear to come in. Evidently this was an old salty motor that wasn't cleaned up too well after use. Just "inherited" this motor and hopefully can get it running soon.
