Hello need some help,
I have a 89 Bayliner with the Ford 2.3 4 Cyl. The starter was bad and has been replaced. This is the first time I have tried to start it this year. When the starter is engaged the motor seems to run. When you let off the key from the start position the motor dies. someone said to replace the starter solenoid which I did. There is spark at the coil when the starter is turning the motor over and it is getting gas in the carb. but the motor will not stay running. Not sure what to do next. If anyone can help. Thank you

Re: Only runs with the starter engaged

You have a start position and run position in the ignition system. somewhere along the way, you have lost run position.. Heres what you can do. Take a 12vdc test light and check for power when on run only and trace from there. fuse blown, wire broke or missing, ignition switch bad or loose. post back and let us know what you find!
