Hey guys

I just purchase a newman skiboat with a 55 hp johnson on it.. dont know what year the motor is but the model is trl-10s.. 3 cyl ... well i have a bad amp.. i just rewire the whole deal just to find out the amp was bad.. I did search about the converion which is cheaper than buying a new amplifier.. how ever I am new to the boating stuff.. alot of the thread mention (points) can someone explain to me what that mean or what is it? so far i learned that you need a condensor and car coil.. If someone have a schematic that would be helpful.

also i'm curious if this would work, I got some crown victoria electric ignition coil which do away with the distributor and spark plug coil and stuff... I wonder if that would work? but of course i dont know how to even start...

sorry if i'm too dumb for the boating stuff.. but i am trying to learn

1968 55 HP.
Yes the amp is $228 and the distributor cap is $300. Expensive stuff.
Keep searching for the old threads. I know some have done the conversion, but I don't know how long it actually lasted....

Re: Car ignition coil conversion?

hey guys found another problem.. i did all my rewire with new wires .. however i found one wire i could not figure out where it go to.. its the wire under the rotor to the front of the motor. there is 2 wire obivously one if a ground and the other one goes down to a 3 wire connector ... on the other end of the connector the wire is gone i dont know where it goes.. previous owner probably messed with it.. i believe now that my motor is a 1968 69 i am not sure. all i know is its a 55hp johnson trl-10s.
