I have 1990 200 johnson it acts like it is hitting rev limiter at low rpm . Have checked tempature wire. Someone at local dealer told me to disconnect orange wires from stator if it cleared up i had a bad stator. I did this and boat runs fine .changed stator and reconnected wires and is doing same thing .disconnected wires again and runs fine .ANY IDEAS WHAT MY PROBLEM IS . BAD STATOR AGAIN MAYBE. THANKS

Check temp and make sure it's not overheating.
If temp is ok,
Ohms test both temp switches, possible bad switch
putting it in slow.
Does the warning horn work?

Re: 1990 200 johnson

The orange wires are from the power
coil that powers quick-start and slow function.
If you unhook them it can't go into slow.
It sounds like it's going into slow and unhooking
them just hides whatever the problem is.
If the warning horn is not working and it overheats
with the slow unhooked you won't know it till
the power is fried.

First reponse still applies, without the manual and PEak meter you're guessing.
It "could" be the powerpack at this point, the slow circuit is in the pack.
I've guessed right and guessed wrong , depends how much money you want to guess with or get the tools.?

Is the tach missing or not working? You're a bit unclear.
