Is an Apha 1 a sterndrive ?Normally, you would drop L/U, turn lower shiftshaft to neutral, put shifter in neutral an re-assem. I would guess the the Alpha 1 would be same principal.

Alpha 1... put remote control in forward.turn lower unit shift shaft clock-wise (while turning propshaft counter-clockwise).now install.Note that if you happen to turn the prop,or propshaft even slightly clock-wise,the shift shaft goes to neutral.DHP

turn clockwise all the way. make sure your shifter is in the forward gear position before reinstalling the lower half. counter clockwise all the way will be reverse.

I read that in my owners manual one night when I had nothing to do. I learn a lot by reading the owners manual.
