Observation

I've been around here a long time and have seen many pictures and videos of outboards. Not to mention those hanging on the back of beautifully restored boats.

My question is, why are so many of them so nasty looking? Greasy, dirty, no paint, etc. For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would spend a year restoring a boat to near perfection and then hang the nastiest outboard they can find on the back.:(

Similar to cars and trucks I see where the owner spent two hours washing it and never touched the wheels.

I don't get it.

Re: Observation

Hmm, my answer is that I spent 15 years in the navy "polishing the brightwork" and other cosmetic chores that are just a part of life at sea. On my own boats I keep them 100% mechanically but settle for a functional not showboat appearance. They are clean but not showy.

Re: Observation

My outboard probably fits in the "nasty" category, but it matches the boat!
Mechanically, everything works to perfection. Cosmetically, butt ugly.

Re: Observation

My thoughts on this......pretty is not important, functional is important. Pretty can come at another time. Pretty don't catch fish or get down the water but functional does.

Clean is Ok!;)

I think most of us here like working on our boats. To me, keeping it shipshape is just part of it. Am I offbase?

Re: Observation

I'll admit it. But, I do enjoy people thinking my 1976 Whaler is brand new.

On the UP side and a valid and valuable point. I've never had more than one person look at a boat, car or truck that I've sold, without buying it for MY price.

I think I'm the poster child for this comment at the moment. Sorry DJ I just haven't gotten around to it yet! :D:p:p

Motor (hideous):

I assure you I will take care of it like I did my last one:

I put a bunch of money into it last year getting it running very well. I feel it's a jinx to paint a motor before getting it running 100%.

Re: Observation

Some people are just more OCD when it comes to appearance than others.
