This forum is great! I've learned a lot, but can't find answers to a couple things. I own a 93 Chris Craft with a 5.8 OMC I/O.

I'm adding a 2nd battery and I bought a Blue Sea 6007 (1,2,both,off) switch and I read that I mount the main red cable from the alternator to the common on the battery switch. The existing red alternator cable looks way thicker than the 2 awg ANCOR tinned battery cables I am about to buy online. It must be 0 or 1 awg ? Does that sound right?

Also, if I eventually want to add a Blue Sea safetyhub 100 like this-

should I be buying a new common bus bar right now to integrate into the electrical system, keeping all loads on the common leg of the battery switch? I keep reading Silvertip's constant recommendation to keep all loads on one common, together. But I'm thinking of just running the new fuse block off my 2nd battery keeping it seperate from my main battery all together. The new fuseblock will be accessories only, like lights and stereo amp, etc.

Thank you!

You are correct in my recommendations. If you wire the fuse panel to the house battery, why bother with the switch. The purpose of the thing is to provide flexibility and protection with power management. Consider this. You kill the house battery. Now what? No radio, no gps, no locator, no lights. If you have all loads on the COM terminal you merely flip the switch to BAT 1 and everything is back to normal. When you add an accessory why in tarnation would you not want to use all of its capability. I also feel your choice of fuse panels is a little over the top since the 30 -200 amp circuits don't exist on your boat unless you have some very high current draw items aboard.

Ok, so I should get the new common bus bar now then. What would you say would be sufficient for a fuse for the safetyhub? It's rated for a max of 170 amperes.

I think I finally realized why I have the thicker cable from the alternator. Previous owner upgraded to a high output alternater. So...now I have to get custom super guage battery cables :(

Thank you Silvertip!!
