or is that my serial? thanks for anyone who can put some insight

what kind of boat?
if it was built after 1972 the "hin" # should be in the upper right corner of the transom ,(stamped right in ) if you are looking from the back of the boat, forward.
it should be 12 numbers and letters.

HIN is the serial number. Hull Identification Number=HIN

its 8 numbers, then seperated set of 4 numbers located to the right of it and down like an inch.
the point of my 2nd question was, does it all have to be together in one set or is it sometimes randomly placed?

yeah, but there are 2 other random numbers 1 inch from that, so 8+4+2 = 14
the point of my 2nd statement was not to help me add 8+4, but if it is common for HIN to be randomly placed or does it have to be in a set alignment.
