Started up my '89 merc 25 hp sitting in a garbage can full of water and found that no water is spitting from the discharge. Is this likely the water pump? s/n is 0B390225 if that helps. What are the details for changing and what is a reasonable price for a new pump?

Thanks,

Daner

A new impeller every 2 years is recommended. This is more than likely your problem. Sometimes the ports and hoses get clogged but if you have n,t done the impeller it,s time to do it. Remove the lower unit. The water pump will be appearent when removed unbolt it do not switch gear when doing this. remove the impeller. Put some grease on the vains and on the splines but not the top of the shaft as this will creat a lock and the unit will not go back up correctly. Make sure your throttle or shifter is in the correct position. (Same as the LU) when reinstalling it or you,ll be taking it back down again. The impeller is fairly cheap. It,s about 25.00. If you need the whole kit shouldn,t be more than $60.00
