Harmonic balancer - 5.0 vs 5.7

Hi, I'm having trouble finding a harmonic balancer that's listed for my engine. It's a chevy 5.0, 305 and anytime I find a place that carries them and lists the engine, for some reason, my engine is not listed, however the 5.7 is. It looks like the 5.7 has an 8" diameter, and when I measured mine, it is at 8", so I'm curious if anyone else knows if it is compatible? Somewhere I read that the 5.0 and 5.7 have the same crankshaft, so that would lead me to believe it is the same. I thought someone on here might be more knowledgeable or have 1st hand experience with it.

I should've clarified, I can find the Volvo part for $360, but am trying to find the automotive equivalent.

An 8" balancer is an 8" balancer for a SBC.

A balancer will interchange between a 5.0L and a 5.7L. The only balancer that wouldn't work is that for a 400 (6.6L) or aftermarket 383 (350 engine with 400 crank), because the 400 is externally balanced.

Agree but the 5.7 is heavier I beleive. In the old day's we'd go with the 305 damper on the 350's to pickup a couple of HP (not sure that it really made a difference but we did it anyway_. That darn rubber cushion ring makes them really hard to lighten.

The balancer I ordered for Chevy 5.7 is 8" but once it arrived, I realized it is not as thick as what is on my engine. I would assume that this would change the location of the pulleys wouldn't it? The Dorman one I ordered is about a 1/2" thinner. Anyone else have to do this?

The face for the location of any pulleys will be consistant. You're probably OK.

If you do need to send it back, get one that is engraved indexed for total advance ignition timing.
