Okay, I got a buddy that bought a boat for $200 bucks. Well it floats and the motor runs but not full speed. I rewired the starting system minus charging system. Still starts like a champ, but at full throttle it has no power, wont even make a wake hardly. I know it's an older Johnson seahorse but the idiot before him painted the cowling and I didn't see any stickers with model or serial number. I am mechanically inclined and very confident in fixing the issue if I can get a manual for it. My question is.... where in the heck can I find a model or serial number on this motor if the cowling and motor is painted and no stickers are on it?

I presume it is 2 cylinder? See if there is some sort of plug on the block, with a number on it. That will tell us the year and model.

If not, remove the cowling and post some pictures. Someone will be able to ID it by sight.

on the front, in between the transom clamps and under the front cowling, you will find a metal plate. If it says Super Seahorse on it, then it's likely a 1958 - 59

Check spark - probably running on one cylinder. It will start and idle fine on one cylinder, but won't have any power at WOT.
