I think I am ready to throw in the proverbial towel when it comes to cooking for my wife. When she cooks a meal for me I sit down and eat and am grateful someone put a hot meal in front of me and always say thank you and compliment the cook. Even if its not the best meal I've ever had.

When its the other way around I hear, "You used the wrong pan, you should have added the seasoning sooner or differently, why doesn't it taste like mine, etc."

Ok, just a pet peeve and I am ranting... But I will not be cooking tonight!!!

Once again we see how little it takes to upset Bubba. C'mon, dude, Chill. If she doesn't like your cooking, don't cook. Life is too short to knowingly allow conflict.

It sounds to me like she is better at it than you are, and should, in the interests of all involved, cook every night.

It sounds like that to me too.

Hey bubba! The next time you cook, throw a couple frozen chicken pot pies in the oven and set a big bowl of tater chips on the table and see what she says about that!

I can't remember the last time the lovely and gracious Mrs. DJ cooked for me.

With that said, her "kitchen time" has passed. So, I took up the slack.

I'm getting pretty good. NO complaints.:D As a matter of fact, I haven't heard one. My cooking also goes down to the sons (NOT at home) and one DIL. We get together once a week and I almost always cook.

I'm patting myself on the back.:D:D

I do most of the cooking in the house and when I get complaints, I literally take their plate and dump it in the trash, than tell who ever it was that that they are free to cook for themselves. With reguards to the wife I have told her that I am not her, I am never going to be her, and I don't do things like she does because I'm not her and that she should be grateful that atleast I am cooking and she's not.

My wife and I have a pack she does most of the cooking in the kitchen and is good at it. I do all of the cooking on the BBQ and breakfast's on the week end. It just works out well.

come on BUBBA, a wife that doesn't complain? Don't set your expectations so high! It was never meant for us men to understand them but to appreciate them.....and have thick skin.

When I was in high school, my best friend worked at his family owned greasy spoon restaurant almost every evening. If I wanted to hang out with him, his mom would have me pitch in and help fill the orders. I didn't get paid, but learned how to cook and cook fast. I still to this day love to cook, and my wife appreciates it. My wife can cook very well, but she just loves my cooking especially a garlic roasted Italian supper. Not to be presumptuous Bubba, but you might consider taking evening cooking classes at a local junior college.:)

Re: Cooking for the wife????

Next time she cooks, in the middle of the meal tell her its really over seasoned or tastes different...Then say you don't think you can finish it and make a big scene...Then when she says "WTF!" you tell her you are doing what she did and ask how she likes it...

One of the lessons I learned really early in life is that you have to teach people how to treat you...I was a professional chef before I got into AC 12 years ago and I do all the cooking at home...My GF's kids(which are great in general) weren't raised with anything but chicken nuggets and fry's or hamburgers from the grill or other easy stuff...So when I make lasagna, meatloaf or anything with pasta and a sauce they throw a fit...So I refuse to cook them a separate dinner and my GF won't make them try it to broaden their horizons...So every night I cook I make dinner for two and my GF makes them what they want...Moral of the story is if my GF doesn't want to have to cook them a totally separate meal she will address the issue with them, in not its on her...

For us, in our house, we both have meals that each of us will do, specialize if you will. She won't wanna make my dishes, and she has some things I won't touch. Guess it works out. We both like to cook, and eat. :D

If she complains about something, usually I agree, it's off that night. Hey sometimes it happens.

Re: Cooking for the wife????

I would rather listen to the wife gripe about my cooking than complain while I fish...LOL. Had to endure several hours of that Saturday during our Crappie tournament that we both attended. She is usually OK with these fishing trips but this was a contest and all I heard was" my reel is screwed up", "why are we moving", "I need bait", "why are we in THIS spot?", "why is THIS reel messing up"......ROFL.
God help me, she had what would have been a "placer" size crappie next to the boat and jerked the hook out...and blamed me for it:eek:...(I was removing a fish from her other rod). She apologized of course...after pi$$ing me off... Anyway....like I said she is usually OK while fishing...loves it. But sure did little for my nerves. heck, she can complain all she wants about the food, the car, or the yard. Does not bother me...but not the fishing.....:p

Re: Cooking for the wife????

I was also reminded of a friend who used to fish with us some years back....He was a pretty good cook and he and the wife (like us) would take turns cooking. One day three of us drove over 100 miles to meet at Stonewall Jackson Lake in WV and we were going to bank fish in a spot that a mountain goat would have issues getting too,(worth the effort though) and we fished for about two hours, then he decided to go to his car and bring us some lunch, and after we ate he said he was going home.....????? "WHY?" we asked...as he drove 100 miles, and the walking to and from the car took almost an hour....."I have to go home and cook for the wife today" was the answer.....
I guess that is dedication...but that was also STUPID.........If I am going to drive a hundred miles I amd darn sure going to fish for more than that.....wife could make or buy her dinner!!!!

Brings to mind an anniversary card we got from one of the kids a while back. "For Dad--who cooks from the kitchen, and Mom--who drives from the back seat."

My GF (not wife yet) seems to enjoy when I cook. She compliments it everytime and seems greatful. Shes literally has a PhD in nutrition, and could put me on blast for the sheer volume of red meat I serve... but she doesent. She just pleasantly eats a small serving and focuses more on green things, as I gluttonously take down a 20oz steak.

Re: Cooking for the wife????

I taught my wife how to cook before we were married. Most dinners are joint efforts and complaints are few, but if there are any I remind her who taught her in the first place. We've been married almost 20 years now.

Reminds me of the way my dad described the marathon duck hunting/camping trips he went on many moons ago.

Rule#1: If you complain about the meal you do ALL the dishes.

And a quote he remembered: "This duck sure is salty....BUT THAT'S JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT!" :D

Re: Cooking for the wife????

A guy just can't win. I suppose there is a written rule saying so somewhere... :D

No No, you can win, but the consequences of that win are often times worse than loosing!!! :D;)

The GF and I switch off cooking, or sometimes it's a joint effort. Most of the time things are harmonious, and she has no problems with what I make (particularly my specialty dishes). On rare occasions there will be a dispute on how somethings made. You've never lived till you've had an argument over putting tomatoes in Beef stew...:)
