I've had my pontoon and motor since 2000, and it has always given strange signals from the warning system, when there was nothing wrong. It is a 9.9 Evinrude 4 stroke 2000. It started 2 yrs ago. The motor would run perfectly for 20 min. and then shut down like it was running on one spark plug until it finally quit. I took it back to the dealer, they said it was a bad carburator and too small dia. hose coming from gas tank, so $600.00 later after a rebuilt carb. and larger dia. hose, it started doing the same thing, 20 min. and it would run really rough and quit. I called our lake mtr. repair guy, he told me to change oil and plugs, and he would come by and look at it. So he came by and the new plugs were already burnt after trying to start it and went about 50 yrds.while he was looking at it, with the cover off, the rectifier/regulator started on fire, totally melted down! He said the dealer had wired it up wrong, and one of the rounds werefastened directly to the block. he put new one on, and i drove it 20min. fine, then it happened again, anyway everybody is stumped by this, can anybody help?
