Washing the inside of your outboard motor?

Any thoughts on using a engine clean/foam on your outboard then hosing it off..Good or bad idea?

Cover the carbs (and distributor if it has one) and go to town.

Yup avoid the carbs and do not spray inside or under the flywheel. I have used napa spray brake parts cleaner which dries fast.

and if you are worried about being eco friendly you can use Simple Green

I merely put that out there for those that think it will offset the amount of gas/oil left behind by a 2 stroke.....lol

I just rinse motor with a garden hose without a nozzle so no great pressure to force water into places you don't want it. Then after it dries, use WD-40 and an old toothbrush to clean all around in tight places. A thin film of oil/lubricant on all surfaces may protect from moisture/corrosion. Once you get motor really clean, it'll pretty much stay that way with a minimum effort and no strong detergents/solvents. Good Luck!

Nothing wrong with a little de-greaser too. I like a clean motor because it's easier to see "issues", in my opinion.
