I have a 1996 200 HP MERCURY W/ POWERTRIM PROBLEM, added proper fluid and trim worked better but not as fast as it should. Started engine in backyard with muffs, while engine was running tried trim button, nothing. Shut off motor, tried trim, clicking at solenoid. Tried to manually lift engine by backing off screw 3 turn's like manual says. Motor locked in full down position. Help

Re: powertrim problem

Have almost same problem posted yesterday. Was told to back out more turns...have not tried it yet.Yours sounds electrical from solenoid to tilt motor. If it clicks your switch is working.Check solenoid, wiring to motor and motor. Also make sure your battery is charged. My problem is leaking tilt ram and air in system.

Thank You Aussieflash, I will try that. I was told if system is airlocked, back off screw until you hear air bleeding out. I havent tried yet

sounds like bad wiring to me. motor runs slow due to low voltage until thermal breaker kick out. verify that trim motor is getting power. relays can click even without working. make sure that connections are clean. 12v does not leave a lot of room for error and a corroded connection can be enough to make the motor not work properly. if all else fails, hotwire the motor straight to a battery.

- as my college professor said - make sure it isn't a horse before you start testing for zebras.
