Re: johnson 300 bearing housing removal

To take the CR g/c apart first you remove the two retaining screws and keepers that hold the prop carrier in. Then put some washers on the prop shaft and then the prop nut. After that get a big slide hammer with the right jaws and pull on the prop shaft. This brings out the prop shaft carrier, fwd gear and ect. You may have to apply heat around the p/s carrier area of the g/c. Don't try to pull the propshaft carrier out as you do with a std g/c as you will screw up the insides. Would highly recommed an OEM factory service manual to do this repair.

Is this a twin mtr rig? If not try ShopSEI.net and put a standard rotation g/c on it. If you try to rebuild it, you'll need some special tools plus a shim gauge tool to do it right. I'd look for a used g/c.
