I was told all my life to never store a carb more then a day or so with gas in the bowl. However i just read a post that said not to run the carbs dry, am i wrong? I was taught that on any motor like a outboard that it will cause the carb to start gumming up and varnish , or is it just for this force outboard? I have been running them dry whenever we trailor to come home at the end of the day or weekend. Thanks.

Re: Carbs

leaving the carb bowl full of fuel for a few days or weeks wont hurt anything. You'll start gumming it up if you leave it filled over the winter.

Re: Carbs

Running dry can cause premature piston failure.Scoring the cylinders too.
If your gonna leave fuel in the system use a stabilizer.
Any longer than a couple of weeks/months will cause evaporation and gumming up.
Really worried, drain the bowls at home.
My boats sets sometimes for 2-3 months with out draining the carbs.I pump the balls and it starts no problem. No stabilizer.

No sence making your pistons run metal to metal with no lube.J

Re: Carbs

Ok thanks for the advice. I have been putting the stabil for marine that has the aditive for ethanol treatment for about a week now, hopefully that can counter any issues i may have been un aware of.
