1983 Johnson 150 cooling problem

I recently replaced my water pump assembly. After the installation i remove the thermostats and associated parts. I ran the engine to flush out any trash or sand. while running the engine i noticed that the right bank thermostat was hardly flowing while the left bank was pouring water out. Any suggestion what may be wrong.

Why were you flushing trash or sand out?
is there another part to the story?

How was it before changing the water pump?
Is it new to you?
