Throttle grip hard to turn 83 johnson 71/2 hp

1983 johnson 7 1/2 hp model j8rcta

the throttle grip is hard to turn. The cable jumped the helix grove and the button on the end of the pin at the end of the cable in the helix broke.

Does anyone know why its hard to twist ?

And where can i get a new button.

Are the buttons the same on a 1987 15-9.9 ?

Have a look at the parts list- shop.evinrude.com

Probably hard to turn cause you need to clean up under the flywheel, the stator plate (just what I call them) probably gummed up.

What should the stator plate be lubed with?

I know how to remove the twist grip. What should i lube this with?

My 7.5 had a broken throttle cable.
