I've got a 35hp '84 Johnson. It quit, then only starts at full throttle but only idles and gas is spewing out of it. I took the engine cover off and there's gas everywhere. I'm a fairly new boat owner and don't know the first step to take.
First step is to get yourself an OEM Service Manual www.outboardbooks.com. Sounds like you have a stuck float in the carb or failed floatbowl needle valve.
