I'm about to take the plunge and get a VHF radio. I have a Hummingbird 595C so that end is nicely taken care of, but looking through the Cobra's It looked to be inferior slightly, of course 3 and 4 hundred dollar units were nice, but staying in the 2-3 hundred dollar range I looked at the reviews for the Uniden models and what sparked my interest dollar for dollar was the UM425. The UM 525 and 625 were also nice, but in some reviews the 425 won out in real world. I'm aware of the new thing thats out, the 'DCS' and I believe the 425 is so equipped. I plan on a nice 8 foot antena, so it should be a very serviceable and quality combo. Anyone know something to the contrary? An I welcome suggestions.........;)

Re: Opinions on the Uniden UM425 VHF

DSC has been required for fixed VHF marine radios for years. What's new is that all new fixed radios must now have Class D DSC. Uniden makes reasonably good radios although many prefer the quality of Icom or Standard Horizon.
