Was wondering if the round tim tab anode located under cav plate on Tohatsu's 18/30 HP engines deteriorates faster at the base or it's an overral anode deterioration, is it possible to weld a anode with ? that has cracked in half at bolt middle base ? The anode still in good working condition, was broken lifting rear tail from water.

Luis,

No, there isn't any reasonable way to repair a cracked zinc. With the cost of a new one at a little over $6.00, no one would. Of course, if it's the newer style (with trim tab), they cost more. But the zinc is considered a normal wear item, like belts, and is typically replaced, not repaired.

Paul, there is no spare same part available at the moment, being a very important tail part, as you cannot boat without one for long periods, after a precise interior base modification and correct angle aligment, have placed a 30 HP anode. Fits perfect, looks real pro :D the only visual difference is it's 5 mm wider being closer to the prop, and 10 mm longer. At wot have not experienced any better or worst behaviour as the original 18 HP. Asume, being wider and longer will help prevent less engine erosion.

Good work, Luis! I forgot about your local parts supplier... You should get good service from your modified anode. Yes, more zinc surface area should help protect the motor more.

Very few issues. The Japan offices and the Factory were not hurt in the quake. New motor supplies are fine; A few parts went B/O, but that's normal in May. Here's the official word, as of mid-March:

"We would like to thank everyone for their concerns about our headquarters & factory in Japan. Thankfully, Tohatsu has reported that all employees are safe & unharmed.

Both the headquarters in Tokyo and the factory in Komagane are located in areas that were unaffected by the earthquake & tsunami that hit in the northern part of Japan last week.

The majority of suppliers for the Tohatsu factory were also not in the affected area, however, many areas are experiencing delays in transportation as well as ?rolling blackouts? throughout the country which may cause some delays in the factory receiving their parts in a timely manner.

Although the situation in Japan is very fluid right now and changing daily, the Tohatsu factory has thus far not experienced any major delays in production. "

The problem is with your country's distributor rather than with Tohatsu. I used to routinely sell parts to other countries whose distributors were to poor to order in parts.

If by poor distributors, if you meant without sufficient cash to purchase spare parts, "those" distributors should not be distributors at all, it's not our case, just under very delayed orders issues. I imagine countries that sells small quantity of engines compared to other big markets like US, are somewhat freeze out on their spare parts purchases & delivery. Just in case :D have a complete 18 HP for canibalism for my personal horse in current use.
